And a fine April Fool's Day to you!!!
I thought about writing a whole thing about finding the one true religion and how I was going to be giving up hair, sex, and chocolate, and moving to a remote part of Montana to live in a adobe hut and dress in mud, for my April Fool's entry, but I pictured several outcomes...
1. You would know that it was April Fool's Day and you wouldn't think it was that funny.
2. You wouldn't be surprised/Put it past me.
3. You would think Montana was tame compared to
Eugene, Why Move?
4. You already think I live in a hut.
So, I decided that I would tell you the highlights of the opening day of Saturday Market instead...
1. I actually got my booth stuff together and ready to head out the door last night, and still managed to get 5 whole hours of sleep!
2. No rain during set-up!!!
3. Set up in plenty of time!
4. Booth space is in a SWEET spot!!! (Right by the big Fountain! Not to be confused with the Roger Fountain!)
5. Mrs. Random brought me brownies! (NOT THAT KIND!)
6. My next door neighbor is the woman who sells "Portable Saints".
7. Four of the other six neighbors sell pottery! (One of the reasons I don't!)
8. It only rained sporadically throughout the day-without messing with my booth stuff.
9. Market Food.
10. No rain during takedown! (Miracles DO happen!)
The first few markets are more social than business. It seems like the sales are dependent on the sunshine, but it felt good to get out there and start the season. Market has a unique flavor that celebrates creativity and diversity in the community. You see all colors of skin, hair, and clothing. One of my favorite sites today was a large lesbian woman in a white t-shirt that read "The Chick Whisperer". It was a great feeling when one of the vendors that I was near last season, a couple who make glass pendants and things, came up and told me that they were starting the Microbusiness Program-Thanks to ME!!!
SPRING HAS SPRUNG!!!
