Back in the Saddle

Topic: HEY NOW!!!
Just to set the record straight, I am not really THAT irritated, I am just having one of those days that are kind of like a mosquito buzzing in your ear. Actually the last couple of days have been intense and focused on many of the things that need to be taken care of. A bunch of little nitpicky-shine-ola issues ganged up and harrassed my little sub-conscious until it wished for a quiet corner, while the task of making sure that the general public met their salsa intake quota kept me too occupied to do much about any of it. The day started out rough as son jr. decided that he wasn't getting out of bed in time to get son sr. to school on time (we made it with minutes to spare-I'm not sure how) Meanwhile I came home and was going to pay some bills and found that Baboo had my debit with him at the dog park. (By the way Tyrone was a relief from the chaos-finally performing "roll over" on his own after several not very promising looking weeks!) +++ Insert work rant here +++ Fortunately the evening salvaged the rest of the day (oh-and when I felt it start getting to me I had a Rodeo roll over moment:)) The boys did what I asked and I got to watch the second half of Martin Scorcese's Bob Dylan film on OPB and then a show profiling artists. I have to admit some jealousy when I see these people who get to work on their art all of the time. I am also envious of studio space, when I am crammed into a 100 square foot room which is divided in half between Baboo and me...ugh. See-feelin a bit sorry for myself. "I WANT AN OOMPAH-LOOMPAH NOW, DADDY" I KNOW that my art is good enough. I need to get it in front of the right people and present it in the right way. I am aware that that is what the grant money is going to help with, but I don't have that yet. I am trying to make what I have be enough, but I can see where I want the work to actually be, and I know that it is going to take time to get there. Until then, I need to keep progressing. I think about it and I can see that I have come a long way just in the last nine months, and I know that I have enough ideas to keep me busy for the rest of my life, I am just needing to have contact with people who can appreciate that a girl's got to make a living!!! Know anybody who wants to buy some art?

Happy Equinox Everybody-Today is the first day of Fall, Libra, and it is my 200th BLOG entry!!! I will be spending my day repaying some favors and refilling the coffers so my kids can continue to live in the lifestyle they have become accustomed to. The coast of Texas is bracing for a category 5 Hurricane just like the one that reduced New Orleans to floodplain three weeks ago. Katrina paved the way for Rita who breezed by the Keys and picked up steam over the balmy waters of the Gulf of Mexico. We are being reminded time and time again that we need to strengthen our bonds with each other and do what we have to do to make sure that our weak, and our poor, and our huddled masses are attended to. We have just entered a whole new realm of awareness. Last Christmas it happened on the other side of the planet, and still it was so close. Now it is here, and where DO we put all of these people who have lost everything. There are people giving away houses and money, and clothing and supplies. There are people rushing to aid, there are people cleaning up the mess. There is a big mess. One of the things I'd like to make happen in my life is to become more PRO-active, rather than RE-active. Once it has already happened is too late to prepare for it. We are like this everywhere in our life. We don't start eating righ  t until there is a health issue. We don't know where to go or what to do in case of emergency. (this life is a test, it is only a test.) It is true that you cannot prepare for everything. If it is true that we could have an attack, or an emergency at any moment, do we all know where the shelter is? Do we know who to contact? Do we know if our neighbor needs help? These situations call out to all of us to be responsible for ourselves and each other. What can you do today to make something better for the next guy. What is your contribution? What is your legacy-THAT is your key to Immortality. No one is going to forget about Emily Dickinson even though very few people ever really knew her in life. Picasso is a household name. DO WHAT YOU LOVE. IAM! ;)

Today was the last day of summer this year. Tomorrow is the fall Equinox. The day will be as long as the night. I will be spending the most of it at the Hombre Cafe working for girls who work for me pretty often. Who couldn't use an extra buck or two. The sun moves into Libra, the sign of Justice and of Partnerships. The balance of night and day is appropriate for the beginning of the sign of the scales. Libra is an air sign. It is ruled by Venus (along with Taurus) Air signs are communicative and vibrant. Venus is the planet of Love and Beauty, and natives of Libra have a love for things that are beautiful. They desire harmony in their partnerships and are generally fair minded. They like to hear both sides of the argument, and often can find reasons to agree with each one. That can be tough. My experience with the sign of the scales comes most directly with my mother who is a "bi-polar" Libra . What goes down must GO BACK UP!!! It was a long struggle trying to get the right treatment in a world that really doesn't understand so many things about the mind. She has been doing well for a number of years at last, and is now starting to speak at conferences on mental health about what it is like from a patient's standpoint. I am proud of her for getting up there and talking about a subject that is really intense and misunderstood. She is intelligent and articulate, and like the subject of a Beautiful Mind, she has walked the line between medicated and not for many of the same reasons. I think that what they can learn from her could help many, many people. I think it is part of the reason she is here.

Flylady says that you can get anything done fifteen minutes at a time. I have about fifteen minutes before I have to get primped for the Desperado Rancheras. I have to try to fit the last three days in-here goes. Went to Waldo Lake on Saturday. Paddled to the far side of the lake where my Baboo, and River Tom had set up camp the day before. Home Sweet Home Away From Home. Tyrone loved it and learned to swim out to get his frisbee or a tennis ball. On our way back in on Sunday we paddled to one of the small "islands" in the lake and had lunch there. There were Dragonflies EVERYWHERE. They were the big bright blue ones that are SOOOO pretty and sparkle in the sun. They were flying around us and hanging out on the trees and plant life. AAAAAHHHHH-My totem animal EVERYWHERE. I know that I am doing the right thing. Waldo Lake is one of the three purest alpine lakes in the world. It is in my back yard. We paddled through the middle of the lake where it is so deep and so clear that the water is one of the only places that I have experienced PURE INDIGO. It is STUNNING. It grabs you by the sub-conscious and shakes you in it's depths. Add to it the shimmer of a sun in a cloudless sky on the ripply wind kissed lake and it's another world completely. I am holding onto the feeling as long as I can. If you close your eyes and picture it I'll bet you can feel it too. Have fun with that. ~OOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM

I started a new project and for the most part I like it, but I have not resolved some of the issues that I have with it. I started a collage on a cigar box purse. It is a fairy on one side and it will have a mandala on the other. I like everything about it except the arms and face of the fairy. They are not subtle enough, or something.. They so not have the look I was going for-a soft, natural form. Instead they look kind of garish, or cartooney-which I think a lot of my work does-I JUST CANT GET SERIOUS. I'd have to say that the word that comes to mind is WHIMSICAL which makes me think of Hallmark cards or "The Queen of Everything" kind of art. I will keep working on it until I get it right, but what that is I am not sure of. Oh well, I'll let you know when I get there. Until then I am going camping at Waldo Lake. Perhaps hanging out with the Alpine Lake Fairies will give me inspiration as we come up on the Pisces Full Moon on Sunday-Dream a Little Dream With Me.

Been having so many ideas in my dreams, and in my waking hours. Just want to start every idea I've ever had right now. The things that are stalling me are annoying me. I picked up a shift at the Tortilla Bordello today so that I could take Sunday off and go to Waldo Lake with Baboo, Lil' Blue, and River Tom. Yesterday I took a field trip to the boutique shop mall downtown in Eugene. It is the opposite of Saturday Market, but alike in many ways. I was inspired by the beautifully crafted pieces of furniture, and the impeccable jewelry. I am amazed by the thought of someone just walking in and buying whatever they wanted. I can't picture that. I was reminded that it is not a sin to have the finer things that life has to offer. I just need to make my mandalas be pieces that people want to take home. I need to be able to produce pieces that people can take home right there. I am finally putting my work in for jurying at Circle of Hands Gallery in Downtown Eugene. I am not worried that I will not get in after I showed a sample of my work and the woman said "WOW".

Been teasing you with the astrology thing and then I don't deliver. Been having a lot of groovy things going through my mind, and been keeping very busy. Been dreaming very colorful dreams. This week has been a creative leap. Today there is a planetary aspect that puts Mercury and Mars in a harmonius position. This is kind of the put your money where your mouth is line-up. The sun is in Virgo, the full moon will be in Pisces (dream on!) on Sunday, and passionate Venus is in sexual Scorpio-yow-Hot-Hot Heat. I have been evaluating the passions in my life. I think that I have been acting like I am still just starting up my business, when in actuality I have been successfully running it for a number of years steadily. That makes me an established artist. I have all of these ideas, and the energy and drive to make it happen. I really just need to be absolutely sure of myself, that I am capable of establishing the next level, and lifting myself up to it. I have been reminded that I am doing what I love, and I just have to continue to do little things every day to get ever closer to the success that I deserve! Do something nice for yourself today.

SO-as a "committed, responsible American" I am on the lists of rapid responders and the like for various political groups. I get stuff about Hurricane Katrina, and it seems like there are an awful lot of people who are more interested in figuring out who is to blame for just about everything related to the storm, from the initial warnings, evacuations, shelters, rescue efforts, looting, levee breaches, lake pollution, fires, contamination and bugs. I haven't got the e-mail about how the government is controlling the weather, but if that were true someone has it in for the president. (Simon Bar Sinister?) They have turned his machines on him and used them to create chaos and break the budget. They have stretched the military to the breaking point, they have tested our response to ourselves. If we are going to be the world police, shouldn't we be able to take good care of ourselves? Are we? It seems like we are coming up to a point where we can be stretched no thinner-that is when the cosmic comedians like to make their move...next thing you know, people will finally demand that we stop the madness. That we stop making excuses and pinning the blame, and start using our heads WITH our hearts, and doing what we know is right for ourselves, our humanity, and our home planet. Now go do a good deed!

Trevor is 16 today-it seemed kind of anti-climactic after having the party on Sunday. He went to his girlfriend's house and Dylan wasn't home either, so woo hoo. I must say that I am really proud of both of my sons, and I am happy to be their MOM. I have been working on the Saturday Market booth display for a couple of weeks now and I think tonight I can finish most of it-Hooray. It seems like the more I do, the more there is to do. I guess that's what keeps me going. This week on an astral level, the planet of communication and travel is going to oppose Uranus, the planet of surprise, and news of unusual or shocking nature could be lurking at every turn. This happens on the 9th, while September 11th, Venus, the planet of love and beauty, slips into Scorpio, one of the most sensuous signs ( ask me how I know!), bringing the seductive forces to the surface.
