It's Always Somethin!
Mood:  cool
Now Playing: Come as You Are-Nirvana
Topic: R & D
It's the end of another action packed day. I spent the bulk of my time at the Picante Palace, where I could barely remember my name. Apparently the same brain cell that I use to remember whether you ordered chicken or steak was doing double duty thinking about painting and pasting mandala plaques when I got home. Business was steady and I got finished late. My favorite part of the day was somewhere around 2pm. I had not been able to stop long enough to take any sort of break because I had constant business. I had one table sit all the way in the back of my cantina at the exact same time that I got two new tables up front. Then a couple sat at my bar and two orders of food came up at the same time. I took out the food (one to the back-one to the front) and the one in the front took a bite and it was "too spicy" (HELLO-It's Mexican Food!! already numbed for Americans!) I took it back-checked my other table and they ordered the most labor intensive drink on the menu-the (dreaded) MOJITO!!! It took a few moments to take care of all of the requests made of me and when I dropped off the Mojitos I apologized for the wait. The guys were really nice, and were seated where they could not see that I was working the entire 25 table section, plus the bar, expediting my own food, busing my own tables, and making drinks for the servers in the restaurant. That is why I didn't POP HIM ONE when I said "these were a little time consuming to create!" and he replied "GOOD THING YOU'RE NOT BUSY!!!" AAAAAAARGHHHHHHHH!!!
When I got home I put a lot of effort into researching techniques for decorating the plaques I got to put the zodiac mandalas on for Sat. Mkt. Let's just say-it was way more labor intensive than making a Mojito~but also far more rewarding when I came up with a do~able solution!! Now I just have to do it about 23 more times and I will have enough to unveil them in my booth this Saturday! (There is a Joe Jackson song that just came on XRT-the one that goes "you can't get what you want-till you know what you want..." -PRETTY MUCH!!!) That's gonna be my focus for this week!!! I may never get the paint out from under my nails! (OMG!)
P>S> there is no such thing as OVERTIPPING!

More Magic Moments
Mood:  crushed out
Now Playing: In the Name of Love-U2
Topic: Jerry Me
April 4 is a very special day to me for several reasons. It happens to be the anniversary of the day that Martin Luther King Jr. was assasinated in Memphis, TN. That is not the reason that this day stands out in my mind.
Once upon a tour, 10 years ago today I was in Birmingham, Alabama (Alabama GET AWAY!!!) I didn't have a ticket to the show, but I was looking for one. With my forefinger poised in the air, I began the chant "Who's got my extra! Cash for your extra!" People walked by, headed to the show, tickets in hand, but no extras for me. Then a guy walked up and said "I don't have an extra ticket, sister, but you can have this picture I took of Jerry at Graceland yesterday!" WOW!!! This was at least as sweet as any ticket. I never did get into that show, but I still look upon this as a miracle.
The thing that really stands out to me is that in hindsight this was foreshadowing!!! Jerry is standing at Elvis's Gravesite in Memphis, and I got the photo on the anniversary of MLK's death. Four months later he too had passed. The signs are usually there-we don't always know how to interpret them. That in itself can be a blessing!
On this date a couple of years after this incident is when I came to know another of my earth angels-a man whose last name is Hart. He was born on Friday the Thirteenth (of November-a Scorpio like Mr. Wright) While I learned a lot about unconditional love for another (and unrequieted love as well) from Mr. Wright, I learned a lot about unconditional love for MY SELF from Mr. Hart. (He definately knew a thing or two about self love, but that is a whole other entry!)
I consider these two men earthly guides. I learn just as much from them when they are "not around" as I did when they were. There are certain people you meet that you know that you have known since DIRT. These two I have known since Light.

Saturday Market
Mood:  not sure
Now Playing: Saturday In the Park-Chicago
Topic: At Last
Finally, Saturday Market has begun. If I was judging my success on my first day sales, I would quit right now. I had to use my 4x4 booth instead of the 8x8 which I have been working on so hard. I was prepared for this and make the adjustments but it just wasn't quite right. I did, however, come up with a solution to a problem I was having with presentation. I was suffering from a shortage of good square frames for several reasons. 1. They are hard to find 2.$$$. I saw my solution in the booth next to mine and will be busy mounting zodiac mandalas on wood "plaques" this week!! They will look GREAT this way and it is an extremely do-able solution. HOORAY!!
I had an interesting conversation with a guy who just moved here from Portland. He had an insight about my work that confirmed for me the next direction I have been planning to take with my medium. I have been planning to do more collages and mixed media. He told me that he saw "layers and threads." I am ready to take it to the next level!!! Wanna Watch? Stay tuned for more growth and development-Coming Soon!

April Fool's Miracle
Mood:  spacey
Now Playing: Take Me to the River-Grateful Dead 4/1/95-Memphis
Topic: I Believe
It's a year after the fateful moment I wrote about last night. April Fool's Day, 1995. I hadn't seen Mr. Wright (that's really his name-I met Mr. Wright on April Fool's Night!!! That really screwed me up for a while!) since the spring tour of 1994. This year we had met up in Charlotte during intermission the night Bruce Hornsby had sat in on piano. (all spinners and tapers, consult your Deadbase.) A dear old friend and opportunist, we happened to be staying at the same campground, and immediately fell back into old habits.
We were together for about a week before we found ourselves at the Pyramid in Memphis for the sold out 30th Anniversary April Fool's Show. He had a ticket from a friend who had to go home because he had gotten REALLY sick. I had no ticket.
I decided to try for a "miracle". For those who aren't familiar, it's where you put your finger up in the air and hope someone with an "extra" chooses to give it to you. (for free!)
SHOWTIME: The Pyramid in Memphis is an actual Pyramid. I know that their basketball team plays there. I'm assuming it is also a convention center, etc. As the time for the show came, the outside crowd rushed the gates and people were trying to run past the guards and into the venue. I turned to watch in amazement as people were even climbing up the sides of the Pyramid! (they didn't get far!) I turned back around and I was one of the only people still out at the edge of the sidewalk, still with my finger up, looking for a kind, veggie, ticket. And I was looking at a guy with an envelope with my ticket in it!!!
The set began with Foolish Heart, and included the Dead singing "Take Me to the River" (Talking Heads)
I experienced every drumbeat course through my veins, and enjoyed quite the show.

Pope John Paul II
Mood:  sad
Topic: Our Father...
The latest reports on the Pope's health are not good. All kidding in "good clean fun", the Pope has given his life to the cause of understanding the great mystery. His role to understand the laws of God and to interpret them to apply to the population is an agreement not entered into lightly. Pope John Paul II has reached so many people. The fact that he is so fluent in so many languages has, I believe, helped him to put a more human face on a position that can come across as High and Mighty. At some point we all have to get to the point where we find out if we were right about God during our lifetimes or not. (The song "Heaven Tonight" By Cheap Trick just came on!! Anyone who knows me knows I'm NOT kidding!) Personally I beleive it is within every one of us.

FUGGLING JOOL Meets FOOL NO 2
Mood:  bright
Now Playing: Foolish Heart- the Grateful Dead
Topic: No Foolin!!
It's April Fool's Day!!! A day for which there will FOREVER be a special place in my Foolish Heart. Like I said the other day...a number of years ago I was at some Grateful Dead shows in Atlanta. My best friend and I met up there at Stone Mountain park and while I was traveling solo, she had an entire troupe with her and I was soon the newest member of their tribe. FLASHBACK: It's April Fool's Day, 1994. There are about 5 of us "hairwrapping" in the parking lot of the show at the Omni. I finish up in the late afternoon and go take a walk through the lot. I bought a little trinket-a crescent moon necklace and I am holding the crystal on it up to the sun. I am tapped on the shoulder by a guy who is with our camp. We start to walk and look around at what the vendors are selling. I stop to buy friendship bracelets for me and my gal pal-they have the scorpion on them and Gina is a Scorpio. The boy informs me that he too is a Scorpio. He says his birthday is Halloween. I say "WOW! Mine is New Year's Eve." He say's "Halloween is the Wiccan New Year's Eve!" and we laugh that it is April Fool's Day and Good Friday at the same time. Hook, line and SINKER!!! We walked and talked together for hours, ending up at the top of Peachtree Tower, sharing a beer, filling up the space, until we figured out enough about each other to be sure that it was safe to make out! You can ask Gina about how obnoxious that got RIGHT QUICK. We pretty much ended up joined at he hip for the duration of the tour and for almost a week beyond!! And I learned a whole lot, real quick about what happens when your Karma runs over your Dogma. There is so much to say about this hiatus from what was going on back in Normal at the time. I had some truly loose ends that needed to be tied when I got back to what had, up until then, been my reality. I had to learn a whole new language to explain what I had experienced. I had to meet the key players and make sense of the plot and then find the forum for the story. This seems like as good a place as any. I'll be back soon.

Birhthday Bash
Mood:  party time!
Now Playing: Happy Birthday, Mr. President-Marilyn Monroe
Topic: Ducks in a Row
Hi Kids,
First order of business today is a SHOUT OUT to the corner at "Ricardo's Ranchera". I am writing to say "Feliz Compleanos" to my very first BLOGGEE and man who keeps me in check-so Happy Birthday, Rick-Since I know that you are reading this while you are still groggy and bleary eyed (kinda like I am now b4 bed!) it may not sink in right away! I do hope, however that you realize that you are one of the people that is important to me in my day, and it is partly your fault that I keep writing this goofy stuff down where EVERYONE can read it!! (Thanks?)
Actually I am writing this on the Eve of Rick's birthday, which happens to be Ericka's birthday (one of the other inhabitants of the Fajita Family Tree-and mother of one of my "star-children") On the other side of his moment in the spotlight is the April Fool's birthdate of my dear friend and personal prognosticator, Michelle AS WELL AS the birthdate of my bestest Gal Pal Gina's daughter Brooke!!! Not to mention that this would be about the time of year that I would have been concieved,(TMI?) and is the old New Year...It all rolls into ONE...
Okay, I gotta get outta here.
I write this at the very end of my day when I am pretty much finished with business for the day and I can wander the more meandering path to a point (or not...)I release it to the universe for amusement puposes only. Please watch your step as you exit the ride, and Come Again Soon.

Weebles Wobble
Mood:  quizzical
Now Playing: Krakatoa- The B-52's
Topic: Time is Relative
Nova tonite was about the science behind the tsunami that hit Sumatra, and way beyond, last December. They have registered a shift of 2cm in the earth's orbit that has caused a wobble in our rotation. The force of the upheaval from the 9.0(+)earthquake and ensuing tsunami waves has also shortened our day by speeding the rotation up. They didn't mention HOW Much shorter the day has become (Probably tenths of seconds.) I suspect that I will NOT be able to use it as an excuse the next time I am struggling to slip past the border guards at "Tiny Tijuana" before they realize that I have hit the snooze alarm one too many times that morning.
This gives me a lot to wonder about. How often do these shifts occur anyway. I know that the TRUE magnetic north wanders from season to season, and year to year. I understand that the ozone layer is thin at the poles and that it too fluctuates. What is the normal spin and trajectory of the Earth. Does this shift affect the force of gravity? Can it help us weigh less? If we all get really fat can we weigh the Earth down, slow it's orbit, and get longer days so that we can fit everything in? If we were all really fat, could we fit everything in? Would we have the energy? Would we even want to bother? (do you see how this gets out of hand RIGHT QUICK!) There's those "cosmic comedians" at it again. (you'll get used to them-sort of)
This kind of thinking is typical of the Sagitarrius moon phase that we are entering. (This is the moon sign that I was born under!) It is the moon of the philosopher, the traveler and the student. It is the wanderlust moon. For the next couple of days ask yourself the quetions you would most like answered. Then try your best to answer the most important one. (Like why do I always push the deadline?)-we'll cover that tomorrow!

BAD Blogger!!!
Mood:  mischievious
Now Playing: Hell In a Bucket-Grateful Dead
Topic: Blasphemy!
Blah-blah-BLOGGETY-Blah. Been bad on the BLOG with the Pope-piouty Punchinness, running with scissors, livin' on the edge. I just don't know when to STOP. I expect to be wading through the angry mob soon enough but at the moment I believe they are keeping themselves busy down in Florida. Nuff Said.
When I was in high school in Ohio, I had a friend who's father called me "Flashback" because he said that I was so odd that I must be an acid flashback of my past life !! (Who's the odd one? Where'd he come up with a theory like that?) All of a sudden, about the time I was turning 30 I figured out that he was probably right!!!
I'm thinking of an Easter about a decade or so ago, where I figured out that the universe had quite a sense of humor and that the "fickle finger of fate" was pointing at ME!!! There were some Grateful Dead Spring tour dates that were convenient for me to meet up with my bestest, and far away friend. It just so happened that the shows fell on the Easter weekend where Good Friday also happened to be April Fool's Day and I entered into a whole new level of Tomfoolery!!! Or as the song goes-"the bus came by, and I got on, that's when it all began..." This Friday will be April Fool's Day this year. I have a lot of foolishness to celebrate!!!
