Topic: For Goodness Snakes!
We all pretty much know that St. Patrick is the patron Saint of Ireland for driving the snakes out of the land. Much like the Pied Piper drove the rats out of England. In many cultures there is a hero who cleansed the land of pestilence.
The snake is a very powerful symbol. It represents rebirth and at this time of year, the spring, it is appropriate to the cycle. When the snake sheds it's skin, it is the same creature, but refreshed. The snake reminds us to shed that which is no longer useful and go out in the world with renewed energy. (Spring cleaning!)
One of my favorite meditations involves snakes. The kundalini energy that runs through the body is represented by the snake. In the meditation you picture two snakes. They crawl in through the soles of your feet, wind their way up crossing back and forth over each of your chakras, and look out your "third eye" or brow chakra. You picture wings growing from your shoulders and you become the caudecious-(the medical staff) and allow yourself to be an instrument of healing.
I'm not sure if St. Patrick felt the same way about snakes or not. I do know that I have not even touched the tip of the iceburg on this subject. I guess we'll have to get to that later. Go have yourself a green beer and some corned beef and cabbage and I'll get back to you.
